15 Years of Beer! We Celebrated in Brewcyrus

The sun came up on March 28, 2026 to the 15th anniversary of Piney River Brewing Co. Just like Saturdays for the past 15 years, we opened our doors and poured our beers. Fifteen years later, we are still pretty amazed to be here. Even more amazing that we have made so many friends over the years that celebrate with us! Brian and I tried to talk to or at least smile at everyone on Saturday.  I managed to pour a few pints for people, too.  Andy was home for the week on a short break between his winter and…

15th Anniversary Celebration Planned at Piney River Brewing

Piney River Brewing Company is celebrating 15 years of brewing craft beer in the Ozarks with a party at the brewery farm in Bucyrus on Saturday, March 28. The “15th Aleiversary” party will be held at the BARn—the brewery and tap room located off Junction ZZ in Bucyrus—from 2 to 10 p.m. The annual party features beer releases, live music, and food. “When we started our brewery, there were several craft breweries in the US celebrating 15- and 20-year anniversaries, and that seemed so amazing to us at the time,” Joleen Senter Durham, co-founder and co-owner of Piney River Brewing…
Fall on the Farm–Oh, the Irony! Beer Events

Fall on the Farm–Oh, the Irony!

We didn't have measurable rain in Texas County for WEEKS! We were officially in a drought. We had been feeding hay to our cows because our summer pastures were shot. But on October 18th, the skies opened up. It wasn't until the afternoon of the 18th that the rain started falling, and it ended about 10 p.m., just in time for things to come to an end. The drought, thanks to the rain falling on our farm, was broken, too. I wouldn't call the 2025 Fall on the Farm a wash out, but the rain definitely dampened the turnout. Plus,…

A Celebration of 14 Years of Craft Beer in the Ozarks

From the bottom of our pint glasses--Thank you for celebrating with us! We couldn't have asked for better weather for the 14th Aleiversary if we tried. January and February had stupid cold days and wet, nasty weekends (except for one). The wind would not stop blowing in March. I'm not talking about breeze. I'm talking about 35-40 MPH wind where your hair always looks like you are riding motorcycle without a helmet. Major tornadoes went North and South of the Piney River Farm the weekend before the Aleiversary. When March 22nd dawned, the wind laid, the sun came out, the…
It Takes A Mule Team Beer EventsThe BARnThe Beer

It Takes A Mule Team

In 2014 we celebrated the 3rd Aleiversary at Piney River Brewing Co. with a special release imperial IPA that we called "Mule Team" paying homage to our Missouri Mule IPA and the team of people that it takes to make a packaging microbrewery on a Farm in the Ozarks work. Craft beer changes led us to stop making Mule Team after the 8th Aleiversary in 2019. The beer is very expensive to make due to the large amount of malt and hops, and by 2019 a lot of breweries had IPAs, imperial IPAs, hazy IPAs, you name it. There wasn't…

The Mule Jumped Over the Moon

Our BARn Mule by Lanie Frick Get comfortable because I have a not too short story about how the Mule Jumped Over the Moon. The Missouri Mule became part of the Piney River story in 2011. First, I spied a handsome mule with it's head sticking out of a barn in a painting for auction at a local charity event. Local artist, Lanie Frick, created the mule, and for me, it was love a first sight. I had to have that mule. The bidding got a little heated (it was a live auction), but that mule, my first mule, went…

The True Tale About Old Tom Porter’s 2nd GABF Win

There we were...livestreaming the Great American Beer Festival feed from Denver. It was Saturday, October 12th, a date that we had set for our annual Fall on the Farm long before the Brewer's Association offered a free booth space to GABF brewery attendees. In previous years we have attended GABF as a way to support the BA, the national trade association for America's craft brewers. Then came Covid which shut GABF down. Then it was Andy's senior year of high school with activities we didn't want to miss every weekend. In 2023 we were moving Andy to Stanford, and we…
