Support Your Local Brewery Beer Events

Support Your Local Brewery

There is a phrase that the Brewer’s Association has popularized among craft breweries—“Support Your Local Craft Brewery”. If you’ve ever had the freshest of craft beers that can only come from a local brewery, you will definitely want to support your local craft brewery.  In today’s marketplace, there is a great push toward shopping at your local mom and pop stores, using locally sourced products and eating locally grown foods.  You might as well have locally brewed beer in your fridge. At Piney River Brewing Company we really appreciate all of the friends old and new that have supported their…
The Mule The Beer

The Mule

We were at the TCMH Healthcare Foundation’s annual Chili Cook Off last November when I spied a piece of art work I could not live without.  Lanie Frick, a Texas County artist that is known for paintings of farm animals and the Ozarks, donated an oil painting of a mule.  When I saw that painting, I knew I had to have it for the BARn.  Brian got into a heated bidding war with one of the County Commissioners, but I got my mule.  (And we raised a little money for charity, too—bonus!) At the time, I knew that mule would…
Merch! Start up

Merch!

Ever since our very cool Piney River logo was developed (Brooke Hamilton of Grindstone Studio—Thanks Brooke!), I’ve thought about putting it on a T-shirt. The logo is pretty color heavy, and I did not want T-shirts that had more weight in paint than cotton.  At the Craft Brewer’s Conference we met Graphic 22 or as they are known in brewery circles, The Hopman.  They specialize in a full-color print that blends with the shirt for a soft feel and look.  Iain Hursey, my sales guy, hooked me up with the first of what I imagine will be many more T-shirts.…
Brewers Having Fun Beer Events

Brewers Having Fun

There are times in life when you do crazy things that are definitely not regrettable.  For example, last week we headed to St. Louis in the middle of the work week, five-year old in tow, for a concert by The Decemberists at The Pageant. A lot of beer has been brewed and fermented and kegged  in recent months while The Decemberists sang their stories in the BARn.  When we saw they were going to be in St. Louis for a concert, we knew we wanted to attend.  To add a little icing to the cake Sara Watkins (formerly of Nickel…
Restocking Beer Events

Restocking

For any of you that follow us via blog, we wanted to let you know that we will be closed this weekend, Saturday, April 30th.  We need to restock our supply.  All of the fermentation tanks are currently full, and next weekend we should be fully stocked with everything--Ozark Firefly Wheat, McKinney Eddy Amber Ale, Ozark Bronzeback Pale, Old Tom Porter, and our latest batch of Ozark happiness--Missouri Mule IPA.  So, plan to bring your growlers and your tastebuds to see us next weekend! We may have our new T-shirts available then, too! Cheers!
Old Tom The Beer

Old Tom

Beer development is part science, part luck. As someone that has experienced giving birth to a child, I find similarities between having a child and creating and brewing a new beer. And Jack McAuliffe of the former New Albion Brewing said, "Farmers make wine.  Engineers make beer." Engineering.  Birth.  Science.  Luck.  No matter what you call it, there are times when brewing beer is pure magic. May I introduce our latest: Yes, it's as delicious as it looks. The roasted barley smells good enough to eat before it goes into the mill.  Add a little hot liquor, hops, yeast....Wow! We're…

It’s Just Crazy Being a New Brewery

Just in case you ever wondered what it’s like to start a brewery, it’s a little crazy. We have day jobs which help us pursue our passion of starting a brewery. It also means that you get up and go to work only to come home and go to work. I’ve started playing this little game with myself where I try to see how long I’m awake in the morning before I think about something related to beer. (It’s usually right after I think about “coffee”.) We’ve been open most weekends since the beginning of March. We open for just…
A Toast The Beer

A Toast

We got a shout out from our people at the Brewers Association today when they featured Brian and the brewery. http://www.brewersassociation.com/pages/community/a-toast-to/show?title=brian-durham Check it out.  So cool.  Thanks BA. Still having the time of our lives....
The good life The Beer

The good life

When we started the brewery we knew that our wheat and our pale ale would get a thumbs up from the public.  The wheat is smooth and easy drinking.  The pale ale, for those that like a little more hoppy beer, also as one beer reviewer said, "tastes the way beer is supposed to be".  They both go great with all kinds of foods, too. We also had an amber ale that we were fond of.  Our friends were fond of it, too, but our amber ale is "different" because it has more caramel and biscuit flavors at the front.…
Base Camp with "Our People" Beer Events

Base Camp with "Our People"

Wow.  That’s really the only way to describe our first Craft Brewers Conference. Sponsored by the Brewer’s Association, this year’s conference was held in San Francisco.   We had a view of the Golden Gate Bridge from our hotel.   We rode the BART.  We ate dinner one night at Zuni.  We also attended a beer and chocolate event at Pier 17 and a concert at the Fillmore.  Other than that, the conference could have really been anywhere in the US. We spent most of our time in classes, in the exhibit hall or at hospitality events hanging out with other people…
