Not Your Ordinary Weekend at the BARn
Since November, we have had the BARn open every Saturday afternoon (except Thanksgiving and Christmas weekends) for tastings, growler fills and general fun...including fires around the fire pits, pints with a view in the upstairs "soon-to-be" taproom, and tours and conversation with Brian and I about things like our brewing process and our passion for craft beer in the Ozarks. If you regularly frequent the BARn, you've noticed the work that we've been doing on the upstairs of the BARn--lights, tables and chairs and a real bar. There's still work to be done--the 1,000 square foot deck off the West…

How Oktoberfest Went Down
Brian and I geared up for our first beer festival--Oktoberfest at The Public House in Rolla--by making sure that we had excellent beer to sample. For this festival, we had a Missouri Mule India Pale Ale and an Old Tom Porter--five gallons of each--to share with festival attendees. My beer, the Black Walnut Wheat, also tasted fabulously of fall, so we decided to take five gallons of it to the festival, too. A very crafty girl that I work with, Brittney McNiell, was hired to carve a pumpkin with our logo in it (and she did a darn fine job…

A Festive October at the Microbrewery
Saturday, October 8th provided Piney River Brewing Company the opportunity to bring a local charitable organization to the brewery. We don't offer food to our customers, but the Houston Education Foundation came out to the brewery and served up hot dogs and brats to raise funds for their group which supports the Houston schools. Our customers don't really need a reason to drink, but we offered up "pints with a purpose", donating a portion of every pint sold at the brewery yesterday. Thanks to our thirsty customers, we were pleased to make a $120.00 donation to the Houston Education Foundation.…

Nanobrewery News
Some of you that follow the Piney River Brewing Company blog do not follow us on Facebook or Twitter, so I want to share a few things with you that you may have missed from this past week's events at Piney River Brewing Company. We were blogged about by a craft beer lover from Little Rock, AR: http://focuseddistortion.blogspot.com/2011/07/show-me-your-hops.html The same blogger also did what we believe to be our first beer review: http://www.beerreviewsonline.com/Beer.php?page=1&id=2135 Thanks to Scott Parton for the blog feature and the review! We had another excellent Saturday in the BARn. As you know, we cannot keep up with…

Piney River Brewing Inspiration
If you've been to the BARn or if you've studied the photos posted on this blog, you've seen the recycled tin from the original roof of the barn that we've used on the walls inside the brewery. Before we were even brewing our own beer, Brian and I drove through Hermann, MO and stumbled upon what we consider to be the best thing in Hermann--Tin Mill Brewing Company. The old grain mill was purchased and renovated to be used as a brewery. I distinctly remember walking through the Tin Mill and saying to Brian, "We should do this with our…

Late Spring at PRBC
It has not been a quiet week at Piney River Brewing Company. Out here on the edge of the Little Piney River, over the past 10 days or so, we've celebrated Andy's 6th birthday, we've finally managed to get all of our vegetable garden in, we enjoyed a Mumford and Sons concert at the Pageant in St. Louis, we finished the sub-floor in the future tap room, and we started to finish out one of the two bathrooms in the brewery. We had hoped to have the bathroom complete before this weekend, but it doesn't look like that's going to…

Memorial Weekend
It's been a somber week in Missouri--checking on family members and friends and saying a prayer for of our fellow Ozarkers that are dealing with losses. We would like to give a tip of our hat to the men and women from Texas County that have personally assisted with disaster efforts. Thank you! In the Ozarks many people spend Memorial Weekend on the river, and currently, the level of rain has rendered the rivers fast and murky. I don't think we'll do a float trip this weekend, but we will have the brewery open on Saturday from 1 to 4…

Support Your Local Brewery
There is a phrase that the Brewer’s Association has popularized among craft breweries—“Support Your Local Craft Brewery”. If you’ve ever had the freshest of craft beers that can only come from a local brewery, you will definitely want to support your local craft brewery. In today’s marketplace, there is a great push toward shopping at your local mom and pop stores, using locally sourced products and eating locally grown foods. You might as well have locally brewed beer in your fridge. At Piney River Brewing Company we really appreciate all of the friends old and new that have supported their…

Brewers Having Fun
There are times in life when you do crazy things that are definitely not regrettable. For example, last week we headed to St. Louis in the middle of the work week, five-year old in tow, for a concert by The Decemberists at The Pageant. A lot of beer has been brewed and fermented and kegged in recent months while The Decemberists sang their stories in the BARn. When we saw they were going to be in St. Louis for a concert, we knew we wanted to attend. To add a little icing to the cake Sara Watkins (formerly of Nickel…

Restocking
For any of you that follow us via blog, we wanted to let you know that we will be closed this weekend, Saturday, April 30th. We need to restock our supply. All of the fermentation tanks are currently full, and next weekend we should be fully stocked with everything--Ozark Firefly Wheat, McKinney Eddy Amber Ale, Ozark Bronzeback Pale, Old Tom Porter, and our latest batch of Ozark happiness--Missouri Mule IPA. So, plan to bring your growlers and your tastebuds to see us next weekend! We may have our new T-shirts available then, too! Cheers!
