Celebrating Craft Beer in the Ozarks–Piney River Style

It was in March of 2011 that Brian and I cracked open the doors to the BARn for the very first time. Somewhat to our surprise, folks showed up! We filled growlers, we poured pints, we sampled the beer that we were brewing after work, sometimes after midnight, on our Sabco Brew Magic 10-gallon system. The "system" for serving beer that first year at the BARn included a table across the middle of brew house floor and picnic tables and camp chairs located out in front of the BARn. A year later, we had a bar built in the upstairs…
A Craft Beer Thank You to You! Beer EventsThe BARn

A Craft Beer Thank You to You!

For our second Ale-iversary a friend gave us a card (and a really cool growler) that said the frequently used Benjamin Franklin quote, “Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.” Happy is really the best word to describe the 2nd Ale-iversary at Piney River Brewing Company. We’ve been working fast and furious for the past few months to pull this off…got the cherry wood floor down, added electricity to the South side of the BARn (for live music), got trim put up, added the other speakers we purchased for last year’s Ale-iversary, brewed up…
Craft Beer for the Ozarks in 2013 Beer Events

Craft Beer for the Ozarks in 2013

2013 has gone off with a bang. Our first beer tasting of 2013 took place at Homegrown Food in Springfield, a fun, locally owned grocery store that specializes in homegrown and local. Brad, Mary and the staff at Homegrown have a cool vibe going on, and we’re proud to be a “local” part of their endeavor. And we love shopping at Homegrown, too. We thought January, February and March were “slow” months for craft beer events, but had two beer festivals in February! Our booth at the festival. The first was the Midwest Regional Beer, Wine, Cheese & Chocolate Festival…
Oktoberfest in the Ozarks Beer Events

Oktoberfest in the Ozarks

This fall we had our first real experience as a brewery during Oktoberfest. It seems like many, many, MANY moons ago, but this time last year we had just brewed our first batch on the big system. We still weren’t keeping the taproom open every Saturday because we couldn’t make enough beer. Fast-forward 11 months. With Piney River beer in many locations throughout the Ozarks, we had many requests for events, many related to Oktoberfest. As I kept adding events to the brewery calendar, Brian and I looked on September and October with some trepidation. We wanted to make sure…

Craft Beer Lake Ozark Style

We received a few flyers about the Midwest Wine and Brew Fest in Lake Ozark a couple of weeks ago. There were several wineries listed on the flyer, but there was only one brewery. Yes. You guessed it. Piney River Brewing. Really? The only brewery? No competition for craft beer lovers? Seriously? Alright! We knew we were going to rock the festival. The festival was in a large, spacious, carpeted room. We had three full size skirted tables to spread ourselves out on. There were silver trays with little packages of palate cleansing crackers and silver dump buckets. (I left…
Hello Arkansas! May We Introduce Craft Beer from the Ozarks? Beer EventsThe Beer

Hello Arkansas! May We Introduce Craft Beer from the Ozarks?

Last year, when Piney River Brewing was still a mere nanobrewery, we were contacted by a craft beer loving salesman, James Denoyer, from Glidewell Distributing in Arkansas.  James expressed his eagerness to have Piney River beer in the Ozarks. Although we knew that a lot of great outdoor activities take place in Arkansas, we really couldn’t fathom making enough beer to send to Arkansas when James first contacted us late last summer.  Perhaps it’s time for a couple of personal disclaimers here….Brian has a great love for the rice fields and flooded timber of Arkansas, which are great places for…
American Craft Beer Week…Thank You! Beer Events

American Craft Beer Week…Thank You!

Five different towns in the Ozarks. Three tap takeovers. Two tastings. Half price growler fills. American Craft Beer Week is coming to an end, and our Ozarks style celebration is complete.  Earlier this evening Brian, Andy and I sat on our patio in the waning daylight, Ozark fireflies blinking all around us, and we toasted to a great week.  We covered some country.  We had fun.  We survived. We can never thank all of you individually, but we do want to say a big thank you to everyone that came out and enjoyed a pint or four, tried our beer…

American Craft Beer Week…Ozarks Style

Brian and I recently returned from the Craft Brewer's Conference, an annual event sponsored by the Brewer's Association.  It was inspiring and tasty, and some of the inspiration came from what we tasted.  But more about that later... Next up on Piney River Brewing's agenda is the celebration of American Craft Beer Week right here in the Ozarks. What is American Craft Beer Week, you ask? American Craft Beer Week is a nationwide celebration of the handcrafted beer made in the US by small, independent brewers.  From Monday, May 14th to Sunday, May 20th, thousands of beer beginners, beer enthusiasts…

It's been a little insane around here for the past month...more insane than the usual insanity.  But don't worry, we're still having the time of our lives. In addition to brewing beer, we're continuing to work on the various construction needs of the tap room at the BARn--walls are almost complete, cherry hardwood floor is soon to begin to go down.  I know, I need to blog about it.  It's not easy to blog when you're the one running the chop saw, though! Here's the most important thing to pass along to you--EVENTS!  Dates, hours, times, events!  If you follow…
Thank You, Craft Beer Loving Friends! Beer Events

Thank You, Craft Beer Loving Friends!

If last Saturday's fun is a foretaste of what's in store at Piney River Brewing in 2012, we are going to have a blast together at the BARn! The week before March 17th was a blur of more tile work each evening. On Friday Brian and I both took the day off to trim around parts of the bar and back wall, move the kegerator, set up the merchandise display, open/wash new glassware, install a big chalkboard listing all of our products, and a new sound system. We took a break for dinner on Friday evening about 7, and from…
