Black Walnut for 14, Please The BARn

Black Walnut for 14, Please

For the brewery that created the flagship beer Black Walnut Wheat, there’s really nothing more fitting than to have three giant, communal tables made of black walnut in our tap room. One of the three black walnut slab tables at the BARn. If you’ve been in the BARn in the past few months, surely you’ve noticed our black walnut tables. They are BIG. They are beautiful. And like all things Piney River, they have a story. Piney River Brewing is located on our Farm, and in the 20 years that we’ve owned our farm, we have lost some centuries old…

Birth. Movies. Death. And Beer!

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema has a motto: Birth. Movies. Death. If you’ve ever been to an Alamo Drafthouse, you know that it’s not just “going to see a movie”. At Alamo, it's about having a “movie experience”. Leather recliners. Well-behaved guests. Great food and drink served to you while you watch your movie. The Alamo Drafthouse movie experience is awesome! Brian and I were kinda excited about the Alamo Drafthouse that was slated to come to Springfield, MO in 2017. We distinctly remember the time we were vacationing with a very young Andy that wanted to see a new cartoon movie…
German Road is an Oktoberfest Beer, too The Beer

German Road is an Oktoberfest Beer, too

Last fall Brian and I decided that in 2018 we would make an Oktoberfest-style beer. We enjoyed three delicious ones that led to our decision—Marshall Brewing Oktoberfest; Sun King Brewing Oktoberfest, and Highland Brewing Clawhammer Oktoberfest.  None of those beers are available in Missouri, but if you are in Oklahoma, Indiana, or North Carolina, get your hands on one of those Oktoberfest beers! So…we drank some delicious Oktoberfest beers, and as it tends to happen when we drink, we decided to brew a beer. The awesome thing about this beer is that while Brian and I made the decision to…

What’s Your Current Situation?

Last fall, Brian, Andy and I were floating down the upper Current River enjoying tunes, beers and root beers, and talking about Piney River Brewing.  As you know, our beers our inspired by nature.   Brian and I already had in mind that we wanted to introduce a new IPA in 2018.  Missouri Mule, our year-round IPA is great, and Mule Team, our imperial IPA that we release every March for our anniversary, is awesome, but we wanted to try our hand again with an IPA. So, we were thinking about that.   Then, while sitting in our kayak…
Keeping Craft Cans Sustainable The Beer

Keeping Craft Cans Sustainable

When Piney River was the first microbrewery in the state of Missouri to can beer at our brewery November 2011, it was a very hands-on process in a very tight space.  Putting craft beer in a can was still a fairly new phenomenon, but we knew it was the best way to enjoy beer in nature, which is what we are all about.  From the beginning we hand-applied the black four-pack tops to our cans because that was the only way we could put cans together.  We didn’t have the space for another machine! The photo doesn't do it justice,…

It’s Our 7th Aleiversary! Who’s Ready for a Party?

Piney River Brewing Company is celebrating their seventh anniversary on Sat., Mar. 24th at the brewery in Bucyrus. The “7th Aleiversary” party will be held at the BARn—the brewery and tap room located off Junction ZZ—from 12 to 7 p.m. “We are looking forward to enjoying a beautiful spring day in the Ozarks at our upcoming Aleiversary,” Joleen Durham, co-founder and owner, said. Durham described the Aleiversary as “the biggest event in Bucyrus”.  Each spring hundreds of people from across the region visit the Piney River Farm for the Aleiversary. “The event is family-friendly, and there is no charge for admission,”…
Aux Arcs Saison—Beautiful Beer for a Beautiful Place The Beer

Aux Arcs Saison—Beautiful Beer for a Beautiful Place

It’s not uncommon when Brian and I are driving around Missouri that we will top a hill or round a bend and marvel at the “classic Ozarks” vista—rolling hills and trees as far as the eye can see. Sometimes the sun is setting in the hills, sometimes it’s rising. Sometimes fog is obscuring the depths of the hollows. There are bluffs.  There are rivers.  There are waterfalls.  It’s always breathtaking. The first Europeans to venture in our hills centuries ago were French surveyors, and they aptly called this area Aux Arcs, French for “to the top arc”. Pronounced “Ozark”, the centuries…
