“This is the best one yet,” Brian said last week.
Brian was talking about our annual Raise A Ruckus Imperial Stout. This beer is only made once a year, and we’ve only made it three times in the life of our brewery, inspired by a beer we brewed with Michael Wells, a home brewer from Kansas City. That’s why it’s craft beer—because we’re hopefully getting better at our craft every time we work at it.
2019 Raise A Ruckus Imperial Stout went into cans and kegs today. The celebration of this once-a-year, limited release beer begins this weekend at the BARn.

Just a few of the vanilla beans that went into this year’s Raise A Ruckus
On tap will be the 2019 Raise A Ruckus as well as 2018 Raise A Ruckus, Barrel-Aged Raise A Ruckus, also from 2018, and the last keg of 2017 Raise A Ruckus. Want to compare all four? We will have a sample tray with a four-ounce pour of each available, too.
Rich, thick, dark and malty, this year’s Raise A Ruckus contains a pile of vanilla beans that were hand-scraped by Brian and I at our dining room table one day in December. Brick and Mortar Coffee in Springfield roasted the “Piney River Blend” of coffee beans for the beer post-fermentation. Our brewery staff has been on high alert with this beer since the November day Raise A Ruckus was brewed because we all want to have best possible Raise A Ruckus when it’s finished.
Ruckus Raising Alert! Last year we threw a little Ruckus at the BARn to celebrate the release of this beer, and we’re doing the same this Saturday. The Creek Rocks from Springfield has the roof raising honors this year, so wear your dancin’ boots to the Farm on Saturday afternoon and plan to Raise A Ruckus with the Piney River Family.
And…we will have another new beer on tap this weekend, too—Double Barrel Doppelbock. This 7% ABV German-style lager is malty and smooth, hopped with German noble hops and is a collaboration brew with our friends at Bricktown Brewery in Oklahoma City. You can also find Double Barrel Doppelbock on tap at the Bricktown location in Springfield, and it’s coming to other Bricktown locations in AR, OK and KS soon, too.
And just in case thick and deliciously decadent dark beers aren’t your thing, we’ll have all the usual Piney River suspects available in the tap lineup, too.
Raise A Ruckus is a labor of love on our Farm, and in this new year we are once again looking forward to sharing it with you.
A note regarding this release: A few but not all of our distribution partners pre-ordered kegs and/or cases of this special beer, and we will be shipping it out to them later this month. You may find it in your area, but if you do, it’s very limited. Grab it when you see it!
